Empowering SMEs with Office 365: Axiom’s Hands-on Lab for EDG-i Grant Recipients

As more SMEs in Singapore embrace digital transformation through government-supported initiatives such as the Enterprise Development Grant – Innovation and Productivity (EDG-i), there is growing demand for practical support in making the most of cloud-based business solutions like Microsoft Office 365. In response to this need, Axiom IT Solutions hosted a dedicated Hands-on Lab on 15 May 2025, designed to help EDG-i grant recipients unlock the full capabilities of Microsoft 365 and accelerate their digital productivity journey.

Bridging the Gap Between Adoption and Effective Usage
Many businesses make the leap to Office 365 but often underutilise its powerful suite of tools due to lack of hands-on experience or clarity on how features apply to their specific business operations. Recognising this gap, Axiom curated a two-hour, instructor-led session to guide SME users through real-world scenarios where Office 365 can deliver immediate impact.

The Hands-on Lab focused on helping participants:

• Set up and use Microsoft Teams for seamless communication and collaboration
• Organise and co-author documents using SharePoint and OneDrive
• Manage workflows and scheduling through Outlook and shared calendars
• Improve business efficiency using integrated apps across desktop and mobile
• Understand file sharing permissions and security best practices within Office 365

The session was designed to be interactive and practical, with live demonstrations, task-based exercises, and plenty of opportunities for participants to follow along on their own devices.

Practical Learning for Real Business Scenarios
Participants represented a broad range of industries — from retail and logistics to professional services — and each brought different perspectives on how they hoped to integrate Office 365 into their day-to-day operations. Axiom’s trainers took the time to explain not just how the tools worked, but how to apply them in SME environments where teams are lean and multitasking is the norm.

Common questions explored during the session included:

• How can I securely share files with clients and vendors?
• What’s the difference between storing documents on SharePoint vs OneDrive?
• How can Teams be structured for departments and projects?
• How can I back up files and manage version history?

The Axiom team also introduced Microsoft 365 admin best practices, providing grant users with clarity on user access, licensing, and data retention settings—key areas that are often overlooked but critical to security and compliance.
